History/Social Science

Social science is the study of society, and social behaviors. There are several branches to the social science discipline, including history, sociology, economics, civics, etc. By examining the social activities and interactions, and how those interactions change over time, students gain a greater connectedness to society, and are more able to participate productively in that society.

At John F. Kennedy Middle College High School we offer a variety of courses in the social science discipline. As part of a well-rounded curriculum, students are required to take World History, United States History, Economics, and Government. Most of these courses are offered in an on-line version as well. Additionally, we offer The History of the Civil War as an on-line social science elective. Students also have the opportunity to take additional social science classes at Norco College.

The social science discipline is an ideal platform to develop critical thinking skills in students. At Kennedy Middle College High School, it is an integral part of our College and Career Readiness initiative, and is highly supportive of the Common Core State Standards.
