Chavez Students Go Behind the Scenes at CNUSD

Norco, CA - The Video and Production class from Cesar Chavez Academy recently visited the Corona-Norco Unified School District Communications office for a unique field trip. Under the guidance of their teacher, William Work, the budding filmmakers got to go behind the scenes with the Communications Office, gaining insights into video production, video editing, photography, and live streaming.

The field trip kicked off with a presentation that focused on the basics of video production, scripting, and storyboarding. The District’s Multimedia Communications Specialists explained how they storyboard video projects, showed them examples of film shots and explained how they use these to create engaging content to share with students, staff, parents, and the community.

Following the presentation, the students toured the District Office, starting with the workspaces and equipment used by the Communications team. The students were able to handle the camera equipment and had a great time posing in front of the green screen.

The ability to livestream events was of special interest to this particular class.  The District Office tour included a trip to the Board Room to view the District’s livestreaming equipment with a lesson on how important meetings are broadcasted to the community.

The Communications team also demonstrated drone photography, taking the class outside for a live drone shot. The students waved as the drone flew over the District Office, capturing aerial footage of the class.

To conclude the field trip, students enjoyed lunch at the District Office, where they had the opportunity to discuss what they had learned. They shared their favorite parts of the day, with many citing the green screen and drone demonstration as standouts.
The visit to the District Office provided a unique glimpse into the professional world of video production, sparking creativity and curiosity among the students that will influence their work for the rest of the school year.
